Our Mission
The purpose of the school is to educate Lithuanian-speaking children and youth in Lithuanian language and literature, history and geography, and to acquaint them with Lithuanian national dances, songs, art, religion, and customs. The school aims to foster love and respect for the experiences of the Lithuanian nation, promote friendly relations among students, and help maintain our national uniqueness while living in another country.

Learning Focus

Academic Calendar
The academic year runs from September to May, structured into two semesters with scheduled breaks, aligning with major holidays and cultural events.
Cultural Engagement
Experience Lithuanian and global traditions through school celebrations and contests, enhancing community ties and cultural pride
Our Program
The education is guided by the guidelines set by the Education Council of the Lithuanian Community in the USA. All lessons are conducted in Lithuanian. The school currently offers subjects including Lithuanian language and literature, history and geography of Lithuania, music, national dances and art, religion/spiritual education, civic education, and the art of speech. Materials from the USA and Lithuania are used for teaching
After completing the 10-year program, our school's students can receive a Lithuanian language credit (as a foreign language), which is beneficial for university admissions. Some high schools accept this credit.
The Chicago Lithuanian School has the following divisions:

Academic Year

The academic year starts on the first Saturday of September after Labor Day and ends before Memorial Day in May. The progression of the academic year is detailed in the official CLM academic calendar.

The school is closed during Thanksgiving weekend in November, Christmas break (two Saturdays after the Christmas tree program), and the Easter holiday weekend.

The academic year is divided into two semesters: the first ends in mid-January, and the second ends on the last day of the academic year.

The school is private and funded by tuition fees and donations set by the parents’ committee. If you are experiencing financial difficulties and need a discount, please contact the parents’ committee.
